Growing as life lets us???

Miss Kat J Phillips

What experiences in life helped you grow the most?

My heart failed. Not in the usual heart disease clogged arteries way or high cholesterol, or valves or high blood pressure. My electrical system failed. The surgery I had to correct this failure resulted in even more failure and eventual 100% dependency on a pacemaker and defibulator. I know I have written about this before, but this is truly a growth experience.
I wanted to be an author. Not have to Work just stay at home and write all day everyday. I got my wish but had to have a huge sacrifice to achieve it.
Life has allowed me to grow but the cost may have been too high. I have other health issues. Congestive Heart Failure, Activity Induced Asthma (I walk and start having trouble breathing(Yes, it has become that bad)) and recurring pneumonia.
However, I have published a book, working on my second, have polished my poetry and have gained prominence with my peers.

My life now is full of doctor and hospital visits, daily diligent management of my physical and mental health and trying my best to keep up my strength. Having COVID twice has not made this easy. However, I have learned that I am mentally strong. I would say I am much strong than most people because of the constant trauma I've had to endure. I have had people tell me they would not be able to survive what I have. I tell them... you cannot know that unless you've walked in my shoes.

I believe all humanity has a built in ability to fight as hard as we can if we are put in a dire situation. Since 2014, my life has been yearly surgeries, strokes, more heart issues and yet here I am. Morale of my story, don't be afraid to face what scares you! It will help you grow.
